J. Derek Lewis
President

In 1991, Derek formed JDL Securities Corporation, a full-service broker dealer and a member of FINRA (formerly the NASD). Derek has extensive experience in investment due-diligence and expertise in providing the right asset allocation for each client and family household. Derek graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.S. degree in Finance. He gained significant securities experience working for Lester, Ryan & Co. while earning income to put himself through college. Immediately after college, Derek served as commissioned officer in the US Navy. He began his financial career in 1966 as a bank officer with Security Pacific National Bank and then entered the investment banking business in 1968 with Blyth Eastman Dillon, which later merged into Paine Webber. In 1979, Derek established J. Derek Lewis and Associates, a Registered Investment Advisor with the SEC and parent company of JDL Securities. Derek graduated in 1963 from the University of Southern California and holds a B.S. degree in Finance.

Derek and his wife, Nancy, were married in 1966 and have three adult children. He is involved in numerous community and church organizations, serving as a board member and officer. He has served on the NASD District 2 Committee.

Kelly A. Dunagan, Jr.

Financial Advisor

In 2004, JDL welcomed Mr. Dunagan with open arms. With a specialty in evaluating, analyzing and organizing financial portfolios, Kelly assists his individual clients in reaching their financial goals and estate planning needs. He is also the director of the corporate asset and retirement plan division of JDL. In addition, he designs asset allocations to meet corporate investment and savings goals, as well as implements and services corporate retirement plans of all types and sizes. Kelly also assist clients with their life insurance needs including term, whole and universal, annuity and long-term care options. Prior to joining the JDL team, Kelly was a sales and management executive for eight years with a medical and aerospace manufacturer. While attending college, he interned at the Santa Barbara County Jail as an Own Recognizance Investigator. He graduated pre-law and pre-med from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1996.

Kelly is an experienced outdoorsman and is married to Ashlee, a JDL associate as well. They have two boys. He has been a young adult church leader, served in mission outreaches around the world and is currently involved with organizations focused on disadvantaged and disabled children.

Doug G. Hyepock
Registered Principal
Financial Advisor, CFPģ, ChFC

Doug comes to JDL Securities in 2008 with extensive expertise in charitable gifting, financial advising and investment planning. Prior to joining JDL, Doug served as Vice President of the Foundation for Christian Stewardship, an affiliate of the National Christian Foundation. Formerly, he advanced his clientís financial objectives as an investment advisor with Charles Schwab & Company. Doug holds a B.A. in Organizational Communication from Arizona State University, and a M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has achieved the Certified Financial Planner, Certified Specialist in Planned Giving, and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations. He also serves on the leadership team of Kingdom Advisors and a member of the Orange County Planned Giving Roundtable.

Doug resides with his wife, Amy, and four children in Ladera Ranch. He and his family are active members of their church.

Robert Knutsen
Registered Principal
Chief Executive Officer

Rob knew early on what he wanted to do. Back in 2007 while still a student, Rob interned with us here at JDL. It was easy to see that his background, talent and personality made for an ideal fit with the firm. So upon graduating (magna cum laude) from Vanguard University of Southern California with a BA in Business Administration, his position here became official.

Rob oversees our staff training and development, and our day to day operations. He brings the leadership, management, and vision essential to ensure that JDL provides our clients with a level of service and professionalism that exceeds their expectations. Additionally, Rob oversees the compliance and financial departments. And, with his ability to manage the many facets of the investment business, he oversees the client services area of the firm as well.

Rob loves spending time with his wife Holly and their three children. If there is somewhere tropical, youíll likely find him there with his family. They are active members of their church and volunteers for Royal Family Kids camp for abused and neglected children.

Kathe Espinili
Registered Principal
Chief Compliance Officer


Kathe began working with Derek Lewis in 1990 and assisted in the formation of JDL Securities Corporation in 1991. She specializes in compliance, technology and problem solving, as well as keeping up with the many regulatory demands for a securities brokerage firm. Kathe has been licensed as a Registered Representative since 1984 and as a Registered Principal since 1993. Prior to coming to JDL, Kathe worked for several major brokerage firms including Oppenheimer & Co., Smith Barney, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Shearson Lehman Hutton.

Kathe and her husband have two children. She is actively involved with the youth at her church and volunteers with Boy Scouts of America. She also enjoys genealogy and researching family history.

Reny Greenleaf
Financial and Operations Principal
Chief Financial Officer

Following a 10-year career with Lifetime Guarantee Ministries, Reny joined JDL in 2008. She brings an impressive financial and accounting background. As a result, she quickly assisted with the conversion of new accounting software and back office operations. Reny also passed her securities licensing exams to be a Registered Representative, FinOp and Registered Principal. Originally from Bulgaria, Reny moved to Fort Worth, Texas to pursue an undergraduate degree in Economics, and later obtained a Masterís in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and an MBA from the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University.

Reny is an extrovert who loves to meet people, travel, worship and serve in her church. She is married to Don and they have two beautiful children.

Rion Dalby
Registered Principal
Operations Manager

Rion joined the JDL team in 2006, and has served in the financial industry for over 12 years. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, with a B.S. in Business Administration; specializing in Finance. Rion serves multiple roles in the firm, including: managing the support staff and the trading desk, interfacing with our various investment institutions, and supervising the daily operations of the firm. He supports the other investment advisors, and services the needs of his, as well as the firmís clients.

With Rionís computer expertise, he created and designed tools to give JDL clients a more clear understanding of their asset mix, allocation models and investment strategies. He initially entered the financial industry with Wells Fargo, where he served clientsí mortgage and refinance needs, with debt consolidation, banking with short-term investments, savings and loans.

Rion is married and has three young children. He has served in childrenís ministry, worked with abused children at the Royal Family Kids Camp, and is an Eagle Scout, and currently leads a pack of over 60 Cub Scouts at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.

Ed McGlasson
Registered Representative
Financial Advisor

Ed joined the JDL team in 2013 with wade range of experience in the investment industry. His foundation was established in real estate investments and institutional REITs while at Green Street Advisors. He also worked in business development for debt and equity placements. Edís passion is to serve with excellence and create tailored financial guidance to help give peace of mind, sense of good stewardship, and confidence for clientsí financial future. Ed obtained a B.A. in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder while competing on the CU Golf Team. His sports accomplishments include Athlete of the Year, All-American honors in Golf, while achieving Big XII Commissionerís Honor Roll for his academic performance. Post college, Ed spent four years as a professional golfer on the PGA Tour of Canada, Nationwide and Developmental Tours.

Ed enjoys golfing, surfing, and reading on the beach. He passionately serves ing his church and is active with the youth through YoungLife.

Kelly Kilpatrick
Office Assistant

As a longtime family friend of Derek Lewis, Kelly was recruited to JDL in 2011. Kelly has extensive experience in client service and she actively assists the financial advisors in the day-to-day operations and specialty projects. Kelly comes to us with a background in mortgage industry with an emphasis on residential sales and lending. She holds a California Real Estate Brokerís License. Kelly is currently studying for her securities licensing examination.

When not working, you can find Kelly spending quality time with her three children or enjoying her hobbies: photography, genealogy, music, traveling and snowboarding.

Brooke Janzen
Office Assistant

Brooke joined the JDL team in 2015. Derek and Nancy have known her since she was 18 months old. She works as the full-time front office assistant. Prior to working at JDL, Brooke worked as an Assistant Manager and Visual Assistant to a local boutique in Costa Mesa. Brooke grew up attending Newport Mesa Church where both her parents have served as pastors. Her mom is currently the connect and welcome teams pastor.

Brooke took an opportunity to Study Abroad at the University of Cambridge in England during her first year of college. While she was there she traveled to many countries including Ireland, France and Italy. Brooke spends her free time with family and friends. She is always on the go and enjoys music, fashion and taking walks on the beach.
